Well, after a rather quiet second half to 2020 we are starting to get busy again with our Deep Rooted plans.
Our main focus attention for 2021 is a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the release of our Grandpa, Bob Copper's seminal book, A Song For Every Season. Released to critical and public acclaim in 1971, the book recounts how farming and village life was in Rottingdean, Sussex in the late 19th Century. It weaves a wonderful tapestry of writings from our Great-Grandad, Jim Copper (born 1882), family anecdotes (handed down for many generations) and some of our family songs.
We have decided to do our own tribute to the book and the wonderful author by filming in and around Rottingdean during each month of 2021. Focusing on the countryside, much of which has changed little since Jim's youth and the vagaries of our local weather, we are also bringing in some readings from the chapters and some archive recordings of the family singing.
The overarching aim (if we get that far!) is to bring the collection of short films together along with some of the others chapters from the book into a longer film. It may be a bit ambitious for two very amateur filmmakers, but we know Gramps would approve! We may reach out for some support in our endeavours and will keep all updated on this blog with our progress.
We have several other projects we'd like to pursue and again will publish details on here as they come to fruition. The whole family are looking forward to being able to sing together again as the current situation improves and can't wait to be back in front of audiences as soon as possible.
A final note just to say we really appreciate all the feedback and support that people have offered on our films over the last 18 months or so, please keep it up. As well as following us on YouTube (please do sign up and subscribe to the channel if you haven't already....) you can now subscribe here for what will become regular updates and can message us via the website too. We may even have some merch to offer very shortly....
All the best
Ben and Sean
